CooChat Terms of Service: the Rules Behind Every Video Chat

These terms cover everything CooChat does: the website, the mobile web experience, matching, one-to-one calls, messaging, coins, and every page you can reach from the homepage. They are a contract, so they are written to be read rather than skimmed past.

1. Agreeing to these terms when you start a video chat

You accept these terms the moment you use the service — there is no separate box to tick, because there is no sign-up step to put one in. Tapping start is the agreement. That covers these terms, the privacy policy, and the community guidelines, which together describe what the service does with your data and what behaviour it will and will not carry.

If you disagree with any of it, stop using CooChat. Carrying on after a change to this page counts as accepting the changed version.

2. Who is allowed to use CooChat

You must be 18 or older to use CooChat, or older still if the law where you live sets a higher minimum for services like this one. There is no route around that: an account found to belong to a minor is removed, and reports of one are treated as urgent.

You are responsible for what happens through your session — including anything said or shown on camera, and any purchase made. Do not hand your access to someone else, and do not try to work around rate limits, blocks or other controls.

3. What the service actually provides

CooChat pairs you with one other person for a private 1v1 video chat. It is a matching service, not a broadcast platform and not an introduction agency. We do not vet the people you meet, verify what they tell you, or promise that any particular person will be online at any particular moment. The same applies to text chat and voice chat, which run on the same matching system with the camera switched off.

Features change. We may add, alter or withdraw parts of the service, and we are not obliged to keep any particular feature running indefinitely.

4. What you may not do on camera or in chat

Most of this list is what you would expect, but it is worth being explicit, because "I did not know" is not a defence anyone can check. On CooChat you must not:

• show nudity or sexual activity, or ask another person to;
• harass, threaten, stalk or intimidate anyone, including after a chat has ended;
• involve anyone under 18 in any way, in frame or in conversation;
• record or re-publish another person's video without their agreement;
• advertise, recruit, solicit payment, or run any kind of scam;
• impersonate another person, or misrepresent who you are in order to obtain something;
• use bots, scripts or automation against the matching system.

5. Free matches, coins and what "free to start" means

CooChat is free to start. You are given a set number of free matches each day and can use them without paying and without entering card details. What that phrase does not mean is that everything is free forever: longer or premium sessions can use coins, and coins are bought.

Coins are a limited licence to use a feature. They are not currency, not property, and cannot be transferred, cashed out or inherited. Purchases are generally final. Where consumer law where you live gives you a cancellation or refund right, that right stands regardless of this paragraph — contact support and say which right you are relying on. 6. Moderation, suspension and losing your account

Reports are reviewed and acted on. Depending on what happened we may end a session, restrict a feature, suspend access, or remove an account entirely. For the serious categories in section 4 — anything sexual, anything involving a minor, threats, fraud — removal is immediate and is not a warning shot.

We may also act without a report where we detect automated behaviour or manipulation of the matching system. If you believe a decision was wrong, write to support with what you think happened; appeals are read by a person.

7. Content you show, and content you see

You keep ownership of what you show on camera. You grant CooChat only the narrow permission needed to run the service — transmitting your video to the person you are matched with, and retaining material where we are required to for a safety investigation or by law.

Everything else on the site — the name, the design, the code, the written pages — belongs to us and is not yours to copy or reuse. Content shown to you by another user belongs to them; recording or republishing it without their agreement is both a breach of these terms and, in many places, against the law.

8. Third-party services and links

Payment processing, analytics and content delivery are handled by outside providers, each under its own terms. Where this site links out, we do not control what is on the other end and do not adopt it. Follow an external link and you are on that operator's terms, not ours.

9. What we do not promise

The service is provided as it is. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, that a match will always be found, that any person you meet is who they claim to be, or that a conversation will be a good one. Video chat with people you have not met carries risk that no platform can remove; what we can do is give you blocking and reporting that work in one tap, and act on what is reported.

To the fullest extent the law allows, CooChat is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

10. Who these terms are with, and which law applies

These terms are between you and the operator of CooChat at coochat.net. There is no separate registered company name or address to name here, and we are not going to invent one — see the about page for the same statement in plainer language.

Because of that, these terms do not nominate a governing jurisdiction. What applies instead is the consumer law where you live — and that is the more favourable arrangement of the two for you, since mandatory consumer protections cannot be signed away by a terms page in any case. Nothing here limits a right your local law gives you.

11. Changes to these terms, and how to reach a person

We update this page as the service changes, and the effective date at the top moves when we do. Material changes are worth a look before you carry on using the service.
