CooChat Cookie Policy: Exactly What Is Stored in Your Browser

Most cookie policies are long because most sites carry a dozen advertising trackers they would rather describe in the abstract. There is no advertising here, so this page can be specific instead. It sits alongside the privacy policy, which covers everything else.

What CooChat stores in your browser, item by item

A session record. Keeps you in the same session across a page refresh, so reloading mid-conversation does not throw you out. It lasts until you clear site data.

A daily free-match tally. Counts how many of the day's free matches you have used. It resets by itself when the day rolls over, and it lives in your browser rather than on a server because there is no account to attach it to.

That is the list. Both are small, both are local to the device you are using, and neither identifies you by name.

What is not set

No advertising cookies, no cross-site trackers, no third-party pixels following you to other websites. The site is not funded by ads — the about page explains what it is funded by instead.

Aggregate analytics tell us which pages get used. That is measured at the level of "this page was viewed", not "this person viewed this page".

What happens if you block or clear them

The site keeps working. Two things change.

A match may not survive a refresh, because the session record is what carries it across.

Your free-match count can appear to reset, or to have been used by somebody else. Same cause: the tally is in the browser, so a private window has its own, and your phone and laptop keep separate counts. The help centre covers this, because it is the single most common "where did my matches go" question.

How to clear everything

Browser settings, site data or site permissions, find coochat.net, clear. About four taps on a phone and two clicks on a desktop.

There is no account, so there is nothing on our side to delete alongside it. If you want to know what technical data exists on the server and for how long, the privacy policy sets that out, and requests can go to support[at]coochat.net — type the @ in place of [at].

Changes to this page

If the site starts storing something new, it gets listed here and the date at the top moves. That is the commitment: the list stays accurate rather than becoming a generic template nobody maintains.

Why there is no cookie banner

Banners exist because sites want consent for advertising and tracking. With neither of those in play, a banner would be theatre — a click you have to make so a site can say you agreed to something it is not doing.

What is stored is the minimum needed to make the site function, which is the category that does not require asking. If that ever changes, you will get an actual choice rather than a wall of pre-ticked boxes.

Cookies compared with what other video chat sites set

Worth a line, since the two get lumped together. Both of the items described above live in local storage rather than in cookies proper, which means they are not sent with every request the way a cookie is.

Practically it makes little difference to you: the same browser controls clear both, and clearing site data removes everything either way.

What this means if you use a private window

A private or incognito window keeps its own storage and discards it when you close it. Everything on this page still applies inside that window; it just does not survive the window closing.

The practical effect is on your daily free matches. A private window starts with a fresh count and loses it at the end of the session, so the number you see there has nothing to do with the number in your normal browser.
